İNSTİTUTE OF GEOGRAPHY

HISTORY

 In 1937 it was founded the Azerbaijan branch of Academy of Sciences of USSR, then Geography Department of Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan. The 3 section were arranged in the same department and one of them is the section of Economical Geography.

 İn 1967-1990 years the doctor of geographical sciences B.T. Nazirova was a Head of “Economical and social geography” department.

At present the head of department is candidate of geographical science, associate professor Pashayev Nariman Aziz oghlu.

DIRECTIONS OF RESEARCHES AND THEMES

At the department is carried out both common researches – industry, agriculture, transport, territorial organization of social infrastructure and new branches – geography of medicine, tourism, criminality, regional geography and political geography.

MAIN SCIENTIFIC RESULTS AND ACHIEVEMENTS

After gaining independence the following researches have been carried out:

“Estimation of natural-resources potential of Azerbaijan on republican and regional level”,

“Economic and social-geographical problems the development of regions”,

“Territorial organization of agroindustrial complexes”,

“Territorial organization of transport and communication systems, tourism”,

 “Political geography”.

The complex scheme of the development of regions and ways of rational utilization of natural-resource potential for modernization and improvement of economy of the Azerbaijan Republic has been renewed.

The maps, schemes and models were compiled and a number of monographs and works published for solving there problems.
